As jaw-droppingly amazing as Sichuan food is (and it is quite delicious), there are sometimes I find myself craving food from the states. I even made a special trip to Carrefour to buy peanut butter which makes me feel all sorts of pathetic.
But Monday night was one such night that Alicia and I were both craving two things: getting out of American Gardens (we live here and work about a five minute walk from our apartments) and tasting food with an American flavor. So we flagged down a taxi and headed to Peter’s Tex-Mex Grill. Although the food was decidedly more expensive than the local fare, the food was pretty good and they had ice in their drinks (I cannot overstate how excited this made me).

On Tuesday, we went and got applied for our residency. We left school early and, while the process was pretty painless, there was a LOT of waiting involved. When we got back to school, the kids had already left for the day. I was able to get the guards at the school to make a copy of my classroom key for me, but otherwise, my afternoon was not so productive. Next week, I’m going to start practicing Mandarin daily, so we’ll see how that goes! For now, 再见 (Zàijiàn; good bye)!
